Are you looking for a fun children’s activity for a Mexico mission trip? Not quite feeling like packing a huge amount of craft supplies; you know, all those googly eyes, pipe cleaners and glitter? Side note: can we just go on record and say that Illustrated Ministry is not a fan of glitter? Well, at least Adam isn’t. Why not take down some large coloring posters that your youth group can color with the children you’ll be ministering to?
We shared before about how the Hope Lutheran Church (Fresno, CA) used their coloring posters on their mission trip to Mexicali, and we wanted to share how another church used their posters on another trip to Mexico. If you can’t tell, we love to share with you how people in our community are using our resources and products. We do so for a lot of reasons, but especially because we want other churches and organizations to see your creativity and see how you’ve used our stuff.
Daniel Yoder, Pastor of Christian Formation at College Mennonite Church (Goshen, Indiana), took a set of Spanish-language Advent posters down with them to Mexico and found them to be a very meaningful activity to do with the children. However, I especially liked the fact that they were able to involve their entire congregation in the gift by coloring one of the posters for the family to hang in their new home.
Daniel shares some more about their trip and their use of the posters below:
Our youth group’s summer service trip was to the US/Mexico Border. The first five days were learning about border issues in the towns of Douglas AZ and Agua Prieta Sonora Mexico. Then we went to Puerto Penasco Mexico and built a house for/with a family.
As a way of preparing for the trip and praying for the family, our congregation colored a poster that we took along as a gift for the family. We also took some posters along that we colored with the children and their friends.
Thanks again for offering this great way for people to work together across languages and differences.
We currently have two sets of Spanish-language coloring posters, and they are both available as digital downloads. You can use those to print these posters out at whatever size you want:
- Advent Coloring Posters: While these were sold as our Advent Coloring Posters, they can certainly be used for any occasion. These are our largest posters, ready to be printed as 4′ x 3′ posters. The words in the middle of these posters are Amor, Paz, Gozo, Esperanza and Emmanuel.
- Lenten Coloring Posters: Our newest set of coloring posters includes nine 2′ x 3′ posters. The words/phrases on these posters are Reciba a otros, Dé, Sirva, Escuche, Ame, Vigile, Arriesgue, Tome y Coma, Abandanado, Vaya y Diga.
We look forward to hearing about how you’ve used our Spanish-language coloring posters for your mission trips and ministries!
